Test Your Clutch

To test your clutch, simply start the car in top gear and with the handbrake on let the clutch out slowly. If your engine stalls that means the clutch is in good condition. To find out about car servicing click here.

Maintain Your Air Conditioner

To keep your air conditioner running effectively, run it for about ten minutes each week, even in winter. This prevents the air conditioner's refrigerant from leaking out.

Storing Your Car

If you're leaving your car for an extended period of time, these are some tips to make sure it stays in good condition. Check the oil in the engine, gearbox and differential are clean, and topped up to the correct levels. The petrol tank should be full to minimise condensation. Your car should also be mounted on wooden blocks or jack-stands. Don't use bricks or concrete blocks, as they're likely to deteriorate and crumble. Take the handbrake off and disconnect the battery. The battery should be recharged every month. This will ensure your car is in good condition when you drive it again.

Clean Your Battery

To help your battery work effectively you can clean the corrosion off the battery terminals with a mixture of baking soda and water. To find out about batteries click here.

The Importance of Engine Oil

Motor oil is the lifeblood of an engine. It reduces friction by forming a lubricant layer between moving surfaces. It seals the tiny gaps between the piston rings and cylinder walls and it cools the moving parts by dispersing heat from the engine. Motor oil also cleans surfaces, holds foreign objects in suspension and prevents corrosion due to chemical changes during engine operation. To find out about car servicing click here.
